Windsurfing equipment
Windsurfing equipment is actually fairly simple when compared to many other water sports. It’s downright cheap to windsurf when you look at the cost of something such as boating or scuba diving. However, that doesn’t mean you should sacrifice quality for cost when it comes to buying your equipment. Good quality pieces will always outperform a cheap knockoff version.
For instance, if you buy a cheap harness, the fit may be off, or not adjustable. While that might seem minor, when your entire body weight is riding on that harness for an extended period of time, it’s imperative that the fit be right. Another piece of windsurfing equipment it would be easy, but a mistake, to skimp on is the ropes. Yes, windsurfing is a sailing sport, and as such it requires rigging, not much of the rigging needs to be adjusted during an outing, but the tension involved is quite high. If you have a cheap rope it could snap, leaving you out of luck.
There are other pieces of windsurfing equipment where a little change makes a big difference. Take the fins for example. The variation in fin size is often only 2-6 inches total between the smallest fins on the market and the very largest. That is because even a small change in the sizing, angle of attack, or profile of a windsurfer’s fins works out to be a huge difference in handling.
