Windsurfing DVD
Windsurfing DVDs come in a few different flavors. There are instructional DVDs and there are DVDs of windsurfers in action. The former is a basic how to video that may utilize footage to show how a maneuver will look when properly executed, but the emphasis is more on instruction than stunning visuals. The latter is more of a demo video, the type that has been popularized in snowboarding.
In a demo windsurfing DVD you will see a lot of scenes that feature a windsurfer pulling off some amazing tricks out on the waves. They are heavily edited, for fairly obvious reasons. For every time a surfer pulls off a trick, they spent dozens if not hundreds of times trying to do the maneuver and failing. So while the string of wild success after success looks impressive as a finished product, keep in mind all you don’t see in one of these videos.
Now, if you’re enjoying a windsurfing DVD from a cinematic standpoint, there’s no need to sit back and think about things such as whether it took 100 takes to stick the latest trick, all that’s important is that you can appreciate the cinematography. However if you’re an aspiring windsurfer yourself then that information becomes pertinent. This is because if you go out and don’t succeed at doing the types of things you see in one of those videos, you shouldn’t get discouraged. Some of those people have spent years just honing their skills, and have fallen off, biffed, or ate it countless times. So if at first you don’t succeed, don’t sweat it, get back up and try again.
